Ma Maison - 1-Altitude - Pints and Curries

Slight procrastination on interview preparations for the phone fixture and farewell to the friend closing on the end of his work trip. Supposed to eat at Newton Food Centre, but ended up at Bugis due to time constraints.

I have always loved the dimly lit ambience and its beautifully furnished interiors. Do not give up the wait for the table seat! A classy dinner at Ma Maison, renowned for its hamburgs, and possibly pork cutlets. This outlet is better than its branch at Bugis+.


Hamburg with Cheese

Potato Gratin

I thought Hamburg with Cheese meant it would be infused with cheese rather than a lay over of melting cheese. Nonetheless, the hamburg steak was of the right texture and the sauce was spectacular. This dish was actually similar to the Hamburg with Foie Gras, where the steak was glazed with a chunk of foie gras on the top. The foie gras was average in comparison to those dishes I had in Hong Kong. Price equals quality ay. Apparently the appetizer - Potato Gratin, came last when we were mostly finished with out meals by then.


Escargots with Garlic Butter

And, this place has escargots! Didn't have it this time round. Their escargots are good but I am still rather spooked by the thought of eating a snail. Remembering that one escargot my friend forced me to eat the previous time I visited..

Melon Caprioska and Singapore Sling

Named the world's highest al fresco bar and viewing gallery, it was exorbitant with a cover charge of $30 inclusive of one drink. Apart from their house beers and wines, there were 3 choices of cocktails - Singapore Sling, Melon Caprioska and Lychee Martini. I finally tried the Singapore Sling, which was similar to fruit punch and kind of too sweet to my liking. Can't feel the liquor. Upon arriving at Level 63, we were greeted by a dance floor (with a few caucasians showing off their unsightly moves). Originally we thought we mistakenly went to the wrong floor/ area as there was a club at 1-altitude. Heading up the stairs was the viewing gallery, with the seats all taken up by reservations. The night view was incredible, a 360 degree view of Singapore, even overlooking the brim of Malaysia. Sipping cocktails in front of Singapore's cityscape and admiring the lightning clouds over Malaysia. That was enjoyable.

Not forgetting to mention, do not stick your arms across the parapet for pictures, or risk getting your photo interfered by the security flickering his torch at you. Most people did not get it until another guard came up to them.

1664 Blanc

Headed down to Clarke Quay for some 1664 Blanc, my new favourite! Singapore's 1664 seems more sour than the one I had in Hong Kong. Unsure if its a bar-specific reason. The aroma of Indian curry sifting through the air while having our drinks. What a conspiracy. I must definitely try their curry the next time I head to Clarke Quay for a meal. Indian food cravings!
